Despite having lived a short life, Robert Peace was very well known, even as a child. Robert Peace was a man who was very much loved by the people in his community. He was always known as the “nerd” and the smart kid of the class since he was just three years old. “It’s because he’s so smart and knows everything.” (Hobbs 17) Robert’s teacher told Jackie when explaining why she called three year old Robert “The Professor”. Though he was always a smart person, hence the fact he was accepted into Yale, his environment, being surrounded by the hip hop culture, played a huge role in his life.
His interest in the hip hop culture started when he was younger. “The rap group N.W.A. was the worst, with songs like “One Less Bitch” and “Fuck Tha Police” the contained not even a nod toward grammatical consistency let alone morality.” (Hobbs 23) which is how Jackie described the music Robert Peace was fond of that Skeet would purchase for him. Incarceration and going to jail are things that are talked about in hip hop music very often. Dr. Moore said, “Hip Hop has made incarceration fashionable.
