Walter Dean Myers won the Coretta Scott King award for African American author five times. Myers was originally named Walter Milton Myers but he adopted the middle name “Dean” to honor Florence and Herbert the parents that raised him after his mother passed away when he was 18 months and his father sent him to live with Florence and Herbert Dean. Walter Dean Myers was born in August 12, 1937 in Martinsburg, West Virginia and died July 1, 2014 in Manhattan, New York city, New York. When he was a child his life involved his neighborhood and church, the neighborhood protected him and the church him, and also had a speech impediment that made communicating very difficult for him.
Begotten Response In Andrew Hudgins’s poem “Begotten,” the speaker talks about how much he resembles his family and how he knows undoubtedly that he is with the people he belongs with. However, the speaker also uses specific language to suggest that he is bothered by his family members, but he never denies the blood relation between him and his family.

Author’s lives inspire their writing in many ways. An illustrious writer, Edgar Allan Poe, experienced continuous sufferings throughout his life. The heartaches he faced transferred into his writing. Poe’s works are dark and traumatic, such as “The Pit and the Pendulum.” He uses the unthinkable and shapes short stories out of them.
From the very beginning of Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within by Natalie Goldberg the theme of the novel becomes very apparent, freedom. She uses a variety of chapter length and themes in order to get her theme across. From the introduction of the book Goldberg begins to tell of her experiences of having to conform to the expectations of her teachers when writing. My father began his career as an enlisted seaman twenty years ago and is now serving as a Lieutenant. The Inspired vs The Real Writer by Sarah Allen’s main purpose was to try and change the way people view writers. They are seen as these all knowing articulating gods, when really, they are people too. They struggle just like everyone else, and any work worth reading had some stress and effort behind it. Allen stresses that just because someone is a writer, doesn’t mean they have always been good at it, or even liked it for that matter. All writers have experienced writer’s block.
Drifters by Bruce Dawe “Why have hope?”, is the question raised in the poem “Drifters” by Bruce Dawe. Bruce Dawe’s poem explores how change can damage a family 's relationship and cause them to drift apart. This poem has underlying and straight forward themes depicted about change. Straight forward depiction is the physical movement of the family from place to place and not everyone is in favour of this change. The very first line of the poem, “One day soon he’ll tell her it’s time to start packing”, supports the inevitable change that no one else has a say in except the man.
The poem “To This Day” by Shane Koyczan is to make the readers understand that there is hope for the ones who got, or even get bullied in school. Bullying happens every day in a regular school day and probably not on school days. “So we grew up believing that no one would ever fall in love with us, that we’d be lonely, forever.” (Line 23) The poet explains how by the countless names that the bullied endured, he thought no one could ever properly love the mistreated.
I continued to type; I added in unnecessary symbolism and metaphors to give the illusion of a well-written paper. I was making good time, I had almost a page and a half done already, but suddenly I stopped writing. “ What next?” I had a case of writer's block, and it was bad.
Nowadays every one is a writer. We write on social media every day, we send emails and short messages.
