Robin Hood is a popular character in medieval English folklore and portrayed in literature and films as a skilled archer and a heroic outlaw. There are many different adaptations of Robin Hood and historians have debated of his authenticity for centuries. However, the tale of Robin Hood is engrossing and enduring to even this day, as seen in the many works produced about the character. A clear example of this would be the movie Robin Hood, made in 2010 about a character named Robin Longstride who fights alongside King Richard the Lionhearted and his army in the third crusade. After King Richard dies in battle, Robin travels to Nottingham with his friends in order to return Robert Loxley’s sword to his father. From there, Robin takes Robert’s identity and becomes involved in a great struggle. In the 2010 movie Robin Hood, director Ridley Scott accurately reflects historical events of the medieval period in order to create realism in the movie, however, he altered some events in order to create …show more content…

King Richard had three brothers: Henry, Geoffrey, and John. Richard died in battle abroad and this left the country without a king. Richard’s brother Geoffrey had a son named Arthur who was next in line for the throne. However, John wanted the throne and had Arthur imprisoned, then later killed him. In the movie, after Richard dies in battle, Robin Longstride and his men pretends to be knights, which allowed them passage back to England so they can deliver the crown to the royal court. Robin, impersonating as Robert Loxley, gives the crown to Eleanor, the mother of Geoffrey, Richard, and John. Eleanor then places the crown on John, making him king. By doing this, Ridley Scott creates suspense within the movie as well as sets up the interaction between King John and Robin, who is pretending to be Robert Loxley, and informs the viewers of the debt the Loxley family
