Robin Hood has been told for over 800 years and entrained everyone with the many different versions of the story. Through out the versions he has killed groups of men and stole money from the sheriff, to not killing anyone but still stole money from the sheriff to give to the poor people of Nottingham.
There are various records of people named Robin or Robert Hood. Some were outlaws. These real Robin Hoods lived in different places and times. Scholars have widely varying theories as to whether any of them were the inspirations to the legend. Also, some feel that there's a mythological basis to the legend. Others think Robin Hood is entirely fictional. The early ballads do resemble other outlaw stories. Certainly the legend as we know it today is largely fiction. But there still may have been real outlaws that inspired the tales.

Some versions Robin starts out as an outlaw. In these stories they don’t give any background on Robin and who he was before he became Robin Hood. In other versions they have Robin as an Earl or noble. Then in other stories he is a yeoman or middle class person. These stories give some background on Robin as a noble or yeoman but not a lot. In the TV show we watched Robin is a noble of Locksley. The TV show shows Robin returning to Locksley after fighting in the holy war. Compared to the ballots we read where they didn’t give us much background on Robin. The ballots start out with Robin showing his shooting skills with his bow and then show him as an outlaw when he shoots the men for making fun of him. So every stories you read or show you watch gives different details into who Robin before he was Robin
