Throughout famous actor, Robin William's life depression seemed to be a reappearing struggle that Robin could not overcome. Per Ronald J Comer, author of the book 'Fundamentals of Abnormal Psychology (eighth edition),' Depression is defined as "A low sad state in which life seems dark and its challenges overwhelming" (Comer 2008). Comer later defined depression as "a clinical disorder that causes considerable distress and impairment, features a range of symptoms, including emotional, motivational, behavioral, cognitive and physical symptoms" (Comer, 2008). Since Williams struggled to be okay with being alone and only with himself it is easy to say that he did not fully accept who he was. Also, during his childhood he lacked the unconditional love of his parents because his parents were barley around. This lack of attention caused him to struggle with self-acceptance. Although many viewed Williams Bipolar disorder as a natural behavior because it made people laugh in movies, it was actually a mental disorder that caused Williams to suffer many side effects. According to clinical psychologist Dr. Colleen Long, "Robin Williams inability to filter his thoughts and his manic behavior was often touted as his genius… Bipolar disorder can often look shiny, fun, and lively on the outside. But on the inside, lies a dark and surreptitious disease, spiraling out of control, and taking prisoner-its host" (Long, 2014). Depression is considered to be a major side effect of bipolar disorder. Per Comer, Bipolar Disorder is the "experience both the lows of depression and the highs of mania," proving that Robin has many mental health issues that caused him the inability to accept who he was an individual and what his purpose for life truly
