Litter. Destroys lives of the precious animals of the ocean one by one. There are over 2,500 pieces of litter found on beaches. That is why the 5th graders at Kemps Landing/Old Donation School coded robots to do a specific service, for a specific audience. They were split up into groups to perform this task. The first point is what service the robot provides. Next, is how does it improves the quality of life? Finally, what are the social, political, or economic implications of its function? The Litter-Bot 1.0 is the focus of these three points. It focuses on litter on the ocean floor.
The service this robot will provide is detecting and retrieving litter on the ocean floor. The robot will use an underwater camera to find the litter, guided by a person on a boat, then will use its robotic arm to pick up the litter and put it in the trash bucket located on the top. This robot picks up litter in any condition; Snow, rain, sleet, etc. It also improves animals’ lives by saving them, or serving their habitat. By helping animals the Litter-Bot 1.0 is useful and will be used all over the world. The Eastern Great Pacific Garbage Patch located in between California and Hawaii is the main focus and with the Litter-Bot 1.0 that place will be helped majorly socially, politically, and maybe even economically.
Robots can help socially, politically, or economically depending on its task. The Litter-Bot 1.0 can help economically because it saves money so the government does not have to pay people to go out and collect trash anymore. With this robot they will never have to do it again and the people paid to do it, do a poor job, the Litter-Bot 1.0 will never have that problem guaranteed. It also helps socially because it will make the population happier if it is cleaned out in the ocean and better for the animals that
