The African diaspora resulted in the force movement of the mass dispersion of people from Africa during the slave trade from the 1500s to the 1800s. The diaspora took millions of people from Western and Central Africa to different parts of the Americans and the Caribbean. All of the changes and forced migrations caused a lot of cultural changes in America, one of the main changes was music; rock and roll had a major effect on the culture of America, however, rock and roll changed from when it was first created to what it is now. He wrote lyrics that focused on the life of teenagers (drugs, sex, and Rock and Roll) and developed a music style that had guitar solos and showmanship. He was an act all on his own and did a little bit of everything. Chuck Berry was a huge influence on Rock music, he sold over a million copies and he reached number one on the billboard magazine of rhythm and blues. By 1950 Chuck Berry was considered a star, he had it all: the fame, the talent and the ladies. In 1962 he was sentenced to three years in prison for offenses under the Mann Act as he had transported a 14-year-old girl across state lines. However, through that time there was a lot of discrimination towards black people and a lot of people believe that the sentence was too harsh, mainly because he was black and the girl in his car had been white. After Chuck came out of jail and he tried to make it in the music industry again things weren't the same because now the music industry had changed and there were bands such as the Beach boys singing his old music and getting twice the attention because they were a white band. The 1980s was another prominent moment in Rock and Roll, in America during the 80s MTV became an important tv station for broadcasting new music. MTV became an outlet for people and artists who went against the grain, also in addition most rock bands were now being signed to independent record labels. In the 1980s, the favored music was; heavy metal, glam metal and heavy rock. Glam metal bands that flourished in the 1980’s were; Cinderella, Queen, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi, Quiet Riot, AC/DC Ratt, Twisted Sister. Heavy metal was another genre of music that became extremely popular, some metal bands of this decade were; Judas Priest, Dio and Iron Maiden. Throughout the period of 1980-1989, America faced: the highest unemployment rate, the stock market crashing, and the Berlin Wall was dismantled.
