Rock and Roll The phrase rocking and rolling originally described the movement of a ship on the ocean. By the early twentieth century, this phrase described a spiritual fervor and a sexual analogy over the years it has taking on different meanings the one stuck was about music .
Rock and roll was born around the 1950s. Rock emerged from rhythm and blues. Music similar to jazz was mostly played by black artists. Disk jockey Alan Freed was the first to introduce this music and called it rock and roll. It began to attract teenagers. Bill Haley, one of the first rock and roll icons, wrote a song called “Rock Around the Clock”.
Also in this decade, Elvis Presley introduced his signature hip swivel. This move was sexually suggestive and shocked the nation. After a while he changed his music to country and became a hero. By the end of the decade rock started to decline because everybody thought it was too sentimental.

The Beatles, for some people, were the best rock band ever. They were from Liverpool, England and they dominated the record industries through the 60s with electric guitars, bass, and drums.
The 60s also gave us different styles of music like Motown, soul, folk rock, and surfing music. The Beach Boys produced happy, popular music until the end of the century. And then it changed to a more rebellious style of music that was called hippie music.
