Rock music has been around since the 1950s and over the many years of its existence has expanded to form as one of the most popular genres in music today. Rock evolved from the genre of blues. Any good rock band has the electric guitar because it adds amazing detail to any song. The drums are important because they are an essential to keep the beat to the song, and they make sounds unlike any instrument. Bass is quiet, but plays the most important role because it keeps the rhythm of the song and backs up the other essential instruments. The piano/keyboard not only can play electric but it can sound like a standard piano as well. Many different sounds are included in a keyboard which provide for an assortment of diverse sounds. This provides sounds that you can’t get anywhere else. Vocals are what make the song. The human voice can make a great song by itself. In all the bands that I have ever played in I have known each member for numerous years. I think that the music sounds so much better when there’s a great group dynamic. The band that I have played with for the last 20 years all went to high school together. They’re my brothers and when we play the music just comes to life and it’s a great thing. How is rock taught from generation to generation? • I think that just like all music it can be passed down from family members, friends, anything that is an influence in a person’s life can pass along music. The social world is another way that music is getting out there a lot faster than ever before. The media is so powerful that it can broadcast things so easily that the outside world can always be in the loop. Rock is a genre that exploded and hasn’t come down since. I was around music and instruments so much that it became something that I loved. I don’t know what I would do without music.
