Over the past four years at Rockhurst High School, my education and formation have had one common goal: to exemplify the school’s mission statement in my life. The mission of Rockhurst states, “In the spirit of Saint Ignatius, its goal is the formation of the whole person within a diverse and disciplined environment, as one who is open to growth, strives for academic excellence, is religious, loving and committed to justice through service.” These words have been my foundation and motivation for the past four years, but that is all they are, simply words. The Rockhurst mission statement has no real meaning unless its students truly become men for others and strive to live the Jesuit mission in their lives. This has been my challenge at Rockhurst. In my own Rockhurst community, I have lived out my love of service most directly through Pastoral Ministry. As the leader of Pastoral Ministry, I coordinate a group of students that plans class masses, all school masses, prayer services, and keeps the overall faith atmosphere of the school. Because of my involvement at Rockhurst all four years, I have received the “R” award which recognizes students for their outstanding commitment to Rockhurst and striving for magis (“the more”) within the Rockhurst community. This is the award I am most proud of because it serves as a reminder that I must always be a man for others. I hope to take my love for service to St. Louis University by getting involved in different service opportunities, campus ministry, and international mission trips in order to continue to grow into a man who finds God in all things and is dedicated to serving God by serving others.
