Throughout the years lots of things have changed, people, languages, technology, and music, especially rock. Rock has made a big impact on the world, affecting the way we dress, talk and act. Although faces of rock have drastically changed in the last 60 years, there is one thing that will always be true, parents dislike the trendy rock bands.
The 1950’s: The people of the Nifty Fifties were a simple time. Elvis Presley was the coveted musician of the times. Teenagers of the 60’s were running around singing songs about “Blue Suede Shoes”, and humming out the upbeat notes of the guitar in many of Elvis’ songs. The innocent looking teen boys of the Beatles made their way to America in 1964 and sung their way into the hearts of many teenage girls, singing tunes such as “I Want To Hold Your Hand” and “Love Me Do”. The Beatles quickly rose up to the top, to become the top selling artists of all time, selling almost 200 million units. In the Beatles later years the ‘Fab Four’ became big icons for the peace movement, developing a hippie style and showing it off in their music. Songs such as “Let It Be” and “Across The Universe” show The Beatles chameleon ability, and how they changed with the times, from innocent mop head teens to hippie icons.
The 1970’s: The rock band Queen became really big in the 70’s. Freddie Mercury sang his heart out in songs like “Don't Stop Me Now” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”, expressing his sexuality and feeling through many of his words. This rock group was the only group to have a total of 18 number one songs and 18 number one albums, and also the first group with more than one chart topping single.
