Corporates Strike a Win? A corporate takeover! According to Jane Martin’s character in “Rodeo,” Big Eight, it seems that way. There are several pastimes corporations manage to take over. Companies slither their way into the bowling industry and manage to determine how Americans can enjoy it. Several reasons they might do it is for money, popularity, and competition. In today’s society, money seems to catch the attention of corporations. They decide to go after a business that sees a lot of money flow or has a huge amount of people in the establishment. It appears corporations have managed to make it all about money, according to Jane Martin’s character, Big Eight, “Rodeo wasn’t worth no money to nobody. People keep corporations in business because they spend their money on goods and/or services corporations have to offer them. If corporations are popular among the crowd or within the city, then people will keep returning to that place because of just how popular it is. According to Jane Martin, “You’re jus’ merchandise to them, sweetie. You’re jus’ merchandise to them” (11) is a way of saying that corporations view people as a way to stay in business. If the bowling place is popular, then parents will take their kids and teenagers would want to go there to hang out with their friends. Once they arrive there, they would expect to see the business be with sufficient staff members. They do not want to go in and see the bowling place be understaffed or have the people be waited on for several minutes that would surely affect the popularity of the place. Corporations will see a decline of customers if they do not make the environment of the bowling place friendly to all age demographics and if they do not keep up with the latest, affordable technology like computerized cash registers, ticket machines, ordering systems, and so forth. Not only would that affect the popularity of the bowling place, but also the lack of proper care of shoes and the place in general.
