The reason he started playing a lot better is because when he beat Pete Sampras it gave Roger Federer the confidence he needed to beat top players. So, he started to practice more because he knew that the game he had at that point was not enough. As a result he practiced more and improved his game a lot. Which helped him win a lot more titles. Like in 2004 he won the Australian open, the US open, the ATP masters and he regained the Wimbledon title. He was ranked number 1 at the start of 2005 and also that year he won the Wimbledon yet again and the US open. Federer held the number 1 ranking for 4 years. In 2006 he won the Australian open, his 4th consecutive Wimbledon title, and his 3rd US open. While rank number 1 on the ATP tour Federer was awarded the Laureus World of the Year three times, 2005, 2006, and 2007. In 2008 he beat Andy Murray at the US open for a fifth US open win. But that year proved to be difficult because he kept losing to Rafael Nadal another great tennis player from Spain and Novak Djokovic a tennis player from Serbia.
