Roger Waters with Pink Floyd Roger Waters, if you don’t already know, is the mastermind behind the famous 70’s rock back Pink Floyd. Waters took his experiences throughout his life. Politics and religion helped to shape his views. He put this into songs but the music was never about the bad. The underlying meaning of what the band was singing about may have been bad but it always came across to me as a something that he turned into a learning experience or made into a good situation. He stated in an interview, “I think there are things in my story that have helped my creativity. Your father being killed, for instance, is one of the best things that could happen to a kid if he is going to write poetry or songs.” Waters was raised a Christian in the Church of England but as he grew up he sees religion as a social scheme and believes life is about personal happiness (Religion). Each band member was an element and a color that corresponds to each one. They also took these colors and used them throughout the band's album covers. They used the colors with the album cover with the shaking mechanical hands. The cover is broken up into four different quadrats that have each of the elements. In this album they also took into consideration of how much each of the elements was showing. They did not use the air or earth element as much as fire and water. Pink Floyd used the fact that, “...[R]eality (music) is formed by 4 elements (members), not just at random but in a certain combination (a combined effort). At some places, some elements prevail, but none is more important than the other. Or that is how it should be. Syd Barrett is the quintessence, the absent element, and his music was heavenly, like that produced by the seven planetary spheres (Astronomy
