Complex Characters in The Other Wes Moore A man reads a newspaper article, in which somebody sharing his name is convicted of a serious crime and is sentenced to life in prison. The convict shares the name, is close in age, and grew up in the same town as the, now very curious, reader. The reader, a man named Wes Moore, is struck by this story, and couldn’t quite shake it off after a few years. He decides to write a book. In Wes Moore’s

Just imagine if you were born with not being able you to do any physical activities. Doodle, also known as William Armstrong, was born just like this. The narrator, which is Doodle’s brother, is very proud of what Doodle has accomplished over the past three years of his rough life. There is a plan for the narrator and Doodle to make his life better, maybe even more than one plan. Doodle is a disappointment to the family, until he does physical activities with his brother.
The Weight of the World The nature vs. nurture debate is a common and long standing debate in fields such as biology, sociology, psychology, history, literacy, government, and many more, but it is accepted that they both play a huge part in the world. Nature produces a template of what an organism can become. The organism is held between the ends of a spectrum of what can be, yet it will never have the knowledge of its full potential. Due to this, the organism in question must dedicate itself to an environment in which it can fully express its absolute abilities.
Life is very difficult, and certain people respond to trouble differently. An example of this takes place in the book Trouble by Gary D. Schmidt. In Trouble both Henry and Chay are in difficult situations. Henry’s brother has died and Henry and his family are in a difficult time. Chay is Cambodian and he starts to date an American girl.
The school he was attending was a private school, therefore impacting his image in his neighborhood. “I was becoming too ‘rich’ for the kids from the neighborhood and too ‘poor’ for the kids at school. I had forgotten how to act naturally, thinking way too much in each situation and getting tangled in the contradictions between my two worlds. ”(pg.53) With this contradiction eating away at Wes’ educational integrity, his grades and general attendance began to slip into a state of be unsatisfactory.

I welcome you to the 24th annual Queensland Literary Symposium I’d like to highlight another prominent book that has captured readers with its engaging and thrilling storyline alone with significant aspects of human society and culture The story I specifically refer to is none other but the novel Jasper Jones Written by the Australian author Craig Silvery, Jasper Jones was set in the scorching summer of Western Australia in 1965.
The upbringing of a child contains many factors, many of which correlate to where a child grows up. The people, culture, and experiences of someone’s childhood are the greatest determining factor for what kind of person they will become. So how does the nature and nurture of one’s upbringing impact the decisions that they make, and their life in general? Author Wes Moore explores this question in his memoir, The Other Wes Moore, as it relates to two lives in particular. Moore main purpose in this book is to explore the overarching impact that a collection of expectations and decisions, not always one’s own, can have on someone’s life.

In the midst of the 1950 's, the Cold War begins. While in that period, William Golding creates Lord of the Flies published in 1954. This is a novel about young school boys crash landing on an island. The boys on the island let the fear of something inside of them be in control. In the story, there are lots of events that take place and characters that take part.
Although in NH’s gothic novel, The Scarlet Letter, Roger Chillingworth presents as a well-respected physician. As the story progresses, Hawthorne’s wicked imagery and evil symbolism reveal his true nature to illustrate him as a dark and sinister figure obsessed by revenge. In the first appearance of Roger Chillingworth at the Scaffold scene, he comes across as being likable and calm, yet he is seen as hideous but intelligent with wrinkled features. “...stood a white man, clad in a strange disarray of civilized and savage costume” (58).
The students who were ranked lower than the others had to wear collars to make it more obvious that they were ranked lower than their classmates. She had her students do flashcards on the days they were ranked low and then the days they were ranked higher. The students got nearly two minutes slower on the days they wore the collars. This shows how much being discriminated on effects a person confidence level. The students stated that they were distracted by the collars on their necks, which shows how blacks must feel in their everyday lives.
Some of these strategies consisted in making friends with little white boys off the steer, or taking a book on an errand to advance his reading skills. With this new found knowledge his mindset changes, and he starts to see the world differently. Frederick, with his newfound education, now has hope in his life.
