Sports are a major element in the constitution of national identity. Countries are now defined not by their topography nor political or economic situation but by their diversion in different sporting events. Grenada is now well known and recognize because of Kirani’s contribution in athletics.
Leaders throughout the world realize the importance of sports as a component of their nations culture and as an instrument of diplomacy. The prime minister of Grenada is well aware of the significance of sports, hence the building of two national stadiums alongside each other. It endorses expression beyond traditional barrier, it is understood by all in spite of language or belief. Through sports people can recognize new role model, someone they can look up to or believe in. Since sports have a positive influence on every area of human life its importance must never be taken for granted and countries worldwide must invest in their athletes to ensure that they are always on top.
Oloyede (2012) carried out a research to determine the role of sports in society and found that sport release emotions and acts as a protective value that relieves hostile behavior in people. It gives youngsters the opportunity to showcase their athletics talent to be recognize worldwide. These youngsters also benefit from scholarship to further their studies or the opportunity to be trained by top class coaches overseas.
In a society with the prevalence of deviant individuals’ sport aids as a form of control. When persons are involved in physical activities they tend to use up all their energies in something positive rather than getting involve in violence. When people meet in different sporting events they are better able to relax and socialize which helps them to forget about the social issues that is present in their
