Most people believe that this generation is advancing in technology. They also believe that this generation is always pushing new technological advancements forward for beneficial uses. Imagine living in a society where happiness is fixed. Happiness is only based on technology, where technology forms into a distraction. Bradbury reveals the theme that happiness can be found, regardless of distractions, simply in finding a connection through conversation, reading, and company. Even in the dystopian society in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, happiness is seen through the characters. To start with, conversation is rarely valued in the book. However when it happens it shows how unique they are. How distractions of technology do not interfere with those moments of interaction. The main character, Montag, befriends a girl named Clarisse, they are neighbors to one another. One night, they walk home together. As soon as they arrive to their block, Montag notices that Clarisse’s house still had the lights on. In Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury writes, “‘Oh just my mother and father and uncle sitting around, talking. It’s like being a pedestrian, only rarer. Montag and his neighbor Clarisse bump into each other once again, they begin to talk to each other. Montag throughout the book becomes more comfortable with her. In Fahrenheit 451 Bradbury writes, “‘Why is it,” he said, one time, at the subway entrance, "I feel I've known you so many years?" "Because I like you," she said, "and I don't want anything from you. And because we know each other.'" (28) This is showing how Montag is happy by being with Clarisse.
