Therapists, counselors, and mentors have played a significant role in society. These roles have an impact on all walks of life. Whenever someone reaches a down point in life or wishes to improve their well being; they seek a therapist, counselor, or mentor to fulfill this objective. In efforts to better understand these roles, this paper will discuss the findings and comparison of the role of the therapist, counselor, or mentor. I will also address the relation the roles have in executive coaching. I will use a literature review to elaborate the roles of a therapist, counselor, and mentor. A therapist assists an individual who is experiencing several down points in their life or have mental health issues. Being a counselor provides several job opportunities. These jobs would include career, marriage, academic, and even religion. Whichever role is chosen, the counselor can help guide an individual to make an inform decision on the next chapter of their lives. As a career counselor, the primary focus is helping an individual decide on a career to pursue. The career counselor focuses on the future and well-being of an individual (Subich, L. M. 1994). Counsellors attempt to create a "life design" or a "life role" for their clients more than working role (Subich, L. M. 1994). The purpose for this is to equip clients with the tools to make their own the life changing decisions. It also attempts to aid the client in finding a job that falls within their skill set. Therapists tend to stay with their clients until they have recovered. This often results in a long term commitment. Vancil does comes in different aspects. The essence of her work ethic comes down to core values J. Vancill (personal communication July 19th, 2015). One of those is focusing on the strength base of her clients. This means whenever she works with client, she will primarily focus on bringing out all the strengths of the individuals. When the strengths are exposed, Mrs. Vancil can exercise those traits and make them stronger J. Vancill (personal communication July 19th, 2015). This leads to her ability on being an effective communicator. Mrs. Vancil will lead and facilitate a meeting or conversation with her effective ways of communicating J. Making life changing decisions can be challenging for any individual that comes into her office. Sometimes these decisions need to be made quickly and effectively.
