Gandhi once said ¨nonviolence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind, it is mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction.¨ Nonviolence is the best way to way to solve problems because it doesn’t hurt people. Violence can hurt people which can cause even more conflict. In the book Roll of the Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred D Taylor the mother shopped all the way in a place in vicksburg which was far from home. She did this because she didn’t support the Wallaces store which was closer. The Wallaces are terrible people, they are racist, they tarred and feathered a man and then burned people just because they’re black. The montgomery bus boycott. The montgomery bus boycott happened because a woman named Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white person. African American people walked and carpooled instead of using the busses so they lose money. It was successful and they changed the rule. Instead of using violence to get their way they just stopped using the bus system which worked. This is important because it shows that people can get their way without having to use violence. People wanted to get rid of segregated lunch counters and restaurants so a man named Jerry Lewis planned a sit in. He gathered a bunch of people and they went into a lunch room and sat down. Both black and white people came to support the sit in. Later they were arrested and had the choice of 30 days in jail or a fine. The sit in worked though because the mayor decided to get rid of segregated seating and restaurants. This shows that people can make a point without hurt other people. Some people argue that violence produces better outcomes than a peaceful resistance. For instance if someone wants to prove a point with violence they will hurt other people. However hurting other people to prove a point won’t work because it can cause other conflict. Peaceful nonviolent protest work in most cases and they’re legal. people don’t get hurt in nonviolent
