Lions of Little Rock by Kristin Levine is about a girl, Marlee, who can't be friends with someone because she's colored. Marlee lives during a time when colored people didn't have the same right as white people in America. Marlee faces many challenges in the society from many people, who disagree with letting colored people have the same rights as white people. Marlee must learn to speak out and stand up for what she believes in. Marlee was a shy and quiet girl at the beginning of 7th grade.
In the novel, Warriors Don't Cry, the author, Melba Pattillo, describes what her reactions and feelings are to the racial hatred and discrimination around her, within this book she and eight other African-American teenagers receive in Little Rock Arkansas during the Civil Rights movement in 1957. These nine students became the first color people to integrate an all-white public school hoping that in the future, people of color that live in the same area could go to the same school because they will have the right to the quality education that white families have. The degradation of the Little Rock ' Central High wasn't predicted easy and throughout the school year, Melba goes through abuse, catcalls, and suffering. Throughout this book, it has revealed that
Suffering and sacrifice can negatively shape people if they don 't have the endurance to learn from it and/or people that they can rely on. Like when Bo Jackson got kicked out of football because the other people did not know he was going on a trip. That just shaped him to never join that team because of anger when he could of had a original college football career. He had almost a 1.6 percent of getting in again. In the documentary You Don 't Know Bo some people may think that it is not related to the incredible and stunning novel called Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry.
In the book “Roll of thunder hear my cry”, Mildred D. Taylor uses symbolism to provide context, and background information of the how their community is, and who the Logan’s fit in it. A great example when the author provides context and background information would be the fig tree. When the author is describing the fig tree, she describes it as “It keeps on blooming, bearing good fruit year after year, knowing all the time it’ll never get big as them other trees.” (pg 206) The author is trying to describe how the Logan family fits in in the community.
In the short story, “A sound of Thunder”, Ray Bradbury used figurative language to make a bigger impact on the story. When Eckels goes into the office he sees and hears, “... A sound like a gigantic bonfire burning all of Time, all the years and all the parchment calendars- all the hours piled high and set aflame.” The author, Ray Bradbury, wanted his audience to have a specific image set in the audience’s head. By using a simile he help the reader imagine how Eckle’s is going to get to the past.
In the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Stacey’s perspective of friendship with T.J. and Jeremy is unique and this affects the decisions he makes in Chapter 7. Stacey allows T.J. to do almost anything around him, even though T.J. is rude and naughty. But, T.J. is still Stacey’s best friend. Stacey is pretty rude to Jeremy even though Jeremy is super nice to the Logans and T.J.’s family. Stacey’s friendship with these two boys are very different.
Melba Pattillo Beals wrote Warriors Don’t Cry as a memoir of her battle to integrate Little Rock’s Central High. The nonfictional story focuses on the life of Melba Pattillo Beals, one of the nine teenagers chosen to integrate central high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. Being threatened and harassed by her school mates while her own community ignore her during her attempt to bring equality in Arkansas is heartbreaking as her remarkable story is displayed in this book. There are lots of literary elements used to create this memoir as they help the writing spring to life. Some of them are: first point of view, conflict, plot, theme, symbolism etc.
Courage is Earned! Courage can't just be said it has to be shown. In the book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor, Mr. L.T. Morrision is the most brave, loyal, and kind person you will meet. Mr. Morrison showed courage by standing to the Wallaces, he moved Kaleb Wallace's car off the road, and when he stayed with the Logans even though he could get hurt Mr. Morrison’s actions proved that he knows what is right and he is going to stand up for that no matter what. Even though his parents were killed by whites, he stays calm and knows exactly how to deal with the situation.
Cassie showed courage when she stood up to Mr. Barnett, tried to help Little Man by explaining his actions, and helping T.J. when he betrayed their family. She has shown that is very courageous and outspoken girl by standing up for things that she believed, even if she knew what was going to happen to her for her speaking out. Also, she helps others if they do not deserve it or if they are in real trouble. Have you ever had the courage to confront someone who wronged you? Well, Cassie Logan, a little black girl, stood up to Mr. Barnett, a white store owner, because he would not get to their order.
Overall, Cassie Logan matures throughout Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor while learning the importance of bravery and self respect, friendship and love, and last but not least, family. She learns standing up for what’s right is the best way to think, but not always the best thing to do. The knowledge that love can conquer all boundaries, and not accept life as it is, that you must keep fighting for what you believe if even if that fight must be silent, insinuates its way into Cassie’s brain and heart to the point that she understands by the end of the story. Cassie sees that people wish for the best for her, and she tries to follow their examples. All in all, Cassie become a better person through out Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by not accepting the way things were and being subtle as she could with trying to set off a serendipity to her race, but learning life is more complex than black and white.

He compared it’s eyes to ostrich eggs, this means that the dinosaur has big eyes. He also compared muscles to thick ropes, this means that the dino has big thighs.
