During the 1930’s this quote very much relates to life, having to keep going and never stop no matter what, which takes a lot of courage and perseverance to do. The novel, “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry,” the Logan family lives in Mississippi 1934. During this time, the Logans, who were a southern black family, had to constantly fight for their land because they were black. Stacey showed courage on the night that TJ came to his house after the Simms boys beat him up. TJ came right to the Logan house late at night hoping for help. Stacey courageously took TJ back to his own house and helped him. This was extremely dangerous because after TJ got home the night riders came to his house and attempted lynching TJ and injured his family because they thought that he killed Mr. Barnett. This was dangerous to Stacey because he could have gotten killed or injured by the night riders because he helped TJ get home. Also, Cassie showed a lot of courage because when they went to Strawberry and went into the Barnett Mercantile, Mr. Barnett kept helping other white folks that came in after Cassie, TJ, Stacey, Little Man, and Christopher-John. Then Cassie started to get angry and so she stood up for herself and the other kids. She went up to Mr. Barnett and questioned him on why he was helping other people before them, even though the other white people were there after Cassie and the kids were. This took a huge amount of courage to do, because she is a black little girl, and she went up and questioned a white man. Mr. Barnett could have injured Cassie, but instead he said a lot of mean things to her. Cassie showed perseverance in this event because she did get mad at what Mr. Barnett said but she just kept on going and moved on. This took Cassie a little while to get over, but she eventually did, and that takes a lot of perseverance and courage to do. It took the Logan kids a lot of courage to do in these events because they live in a time period where there is a lot of racism is happening and also they are in the great depression so there is a lot of poverty, sharecropping, segregation and separation going on. These things were dangerous to the Logan kids because they could get killed for making a mistake and they could get punished by white
