“A myth is a way of making sense in a senseless world. Myths are narrative patterns that give significance to our existence.”, a quote from Rollo May, an American Psychologist. This quote helps to explain why myths came to be and are still being used. This quote is significant because many of the Natives and Mayans myths came about to help them understand where they came from and how the Earth came to be. For example, how the Mayans believe humans were made and how the Natives believe how the world came to be. This essay goes into detail about Mayan creation myths, Native creation myths, and how the myths are believed to shape their culture and help the Mayans and Natives to understand themselves and how they got here. To begin, the first Mayan myth chosen to be compared in this essay is the myth about the creation of human beings. The Mayans believe the first human ever to be invented was the mud people. Mud people were humans that were made by mud. The mud people were definitely not the most productive because they could not think as good as today’s humans are able to. They were not able to move their heads, face, they had to stay in one spot because they were made of mud. Technically, they were not seen as mortal. There were only four of this type of creation made. The reason they have the name mother-father is because they represent both women and men components.
