Documentation: Roman Marketplace This project was assigned to demonstrate the influence of Roman culture into the modern day world. Our group interpreted this and decided that one of the most important things that was inspired by Rome was the architecture and/or structure of buildings. After some debate, we came down to two structures the aqueduct and a Roman marketplace. Our group voted and the marketplace was chosen and the plans were laid. The marketplace of Rome inspired the modern day version because of its layout of the buildings and the strip-mall type structure. The Romans had long open “hallways” of stores with a center roof cut out. Columns lined two sides with columns that had roofs connect to and extended to the other side. This …show more content…

Two members were instructed to cut out cardboard rectangles so that four could be glued together as columns. After this, we had to cut the cardboard in large rectangle shapes to create the walls and roof of each store. After the cardboard was cut we used textured spray paint to make the the columns and walls look like stone. Before we could glue the stores together we need to make the base or ground of the markets. This was done by getting large rectangle pieces of cardboard and putting tape on a portion as to not accidentally spray it with paint. After we spray-painted the pieces the stores were glued together and than the two buildings were stable, but before we started the Miami side we needed to create the decorations. Clay figures of fruit and clothing made of fabric were hand made and put on shelves in the stores. Signs were then made in latin to show what the stores were selling. The Miami side then started construction at the end of the third day in the i-Lab. The same procedure of the Roman building was used to created the Miami ones but no columns needed to be built. Unfortunately, the spray paint that we used ran out and we needed to compromise by making one building a different color than the other one. The buildings were glued and finished, but now the decorations needed to be added. Instead of glass the front of each building was lined in saran wrap to give the illusion of glass. Pictures of people were then printed and added into each store. More clay models of cups and scale models of tables were made and added to each store. Than the final thing done was to create a backdrop for each side. A rectangle of cardboard was cut and put on a stand a picture of each respectable locations was printed and glued to put on each end to look like it was in the the place specified. On member than took it home and added some fine detail to it. The project was than completed ending up with
