The Romantic Era has produced ideas and texts that contribute to the society that is seen today. Examples of these texts include Thoreau's “Walden” and my Learner Choice novel, Red Rising. The Romantic Era ties into Freedom & Selfhood and is important to the development of today’s society and the future ahead. It allowed people to begin to look at the world through a different lens, a lens that showed them to embrace freedom and to find yourself. Henry David Thoreau uses imagery in his descriptions, similes, and metaphors to develop the theme. Darrow, a strong-willed character has lots of narration that is unspoken. The thoughts he has is clearly shown each time an event happens. The way he speaks is shown in the dialogue as well, as the language is English, but it is spoken differently. The imagery, as mentioned before, is used in a way to immerse the reader in Darrow’s world. The act of finding myself and discovering who I am as I grow has been important, as it gives me more motivation to keep on going. Selfhood is important in order to distinguish myself from everyone else because that is how I grow. I realize which parts of me are unique, and what I need to improve on to become a doctor and succeed in all aspects of my life.
