The Industrial Revolution provided the working class the opportunity to climb up a ladder that once granted entry only to aristocrats. This did not prevent the Romantic poets from protesting against the Industrial Revolution. After all, they were appalled to see workers turning into machines. Through their works, the Romantic poets manifested a creative passion that liberated them from a mechanical and prosaic society. On the other hand, the locavores are encouraging consumers to purchase more wholesome fruits and vegetables from trusting local farmers rather than scheming food corporations. The tomato, a fruit not native to Italy, is an essential ingredient in spaghetti Bolognese and pizza Margarita. Likewise, a Japanese man could never slice pieces of avocado to prepare his sushi. After all, avocados are a native fruit to Central America. Global agriculture provides consumers the opportunity to create unique recipes including vegetables and meats native to different communities across the world. In our increasingly multicultural communities, consumers should have access to supermarkets. In supermarkets, consumers can purchase foods from a large, organized inventory that accommodates to a wide range of dietary options. A person who lives in Wyoming cannot only buy foods from a local farmer if he wanted to eat lobster. Additionally, locavores must not forget that a wide range of dietary options is far more profitable than a narrow range of “healthy” options. Locavores should also remember that every person lives by his own unique diet. They should not think exclusively on what local farmers from their communities have to offer.
