The Roman Empire was founded in 753 BC, with Latium as the epicenter of the empire (Saylor Foundation, 2013). Latium was a region found in central Italy. Rome was a member of the Latin League. The Latin League was made up of several city-states and among them were Umbria, Campania, Samnites and Etruria, just to mention a few. Of all the members of the Latin League, Rome was the dominant member. Rome's dominance of the League resulted in a revolt in 340 BC. To counter the revolt, Rome formed an alliance with Samnites and the League was defeated such that by 338 BC majority of League members were Rome subjects.
