War is something that has been around for centuries, many feel that it is the only way to resolve conflict, but it causes mass casualties which are sometimes unnecessary. Many lives would be saved if people would negotiate issues rather than immediately choosing to go to war. Thousands are killed so that political leaders can try to be the most powerful in the world. The lust for power kills thousands of innocent citizens and soldiers each year. War is causing more damage than just the obvious people killed in the battlefield, there are many people who are forced to live with the memories of war. People say that war is the only option because people will not negotiate after only a few hours of trying to do so. Thousands of innocent children must kill or be killed. Thousands of innocent children die everyday fighting a war they have no opinion on. “These children are denied education, so that they do not have the ability to choose between right and wrong and become educated on issues. The children who are abducted and used as child soldiers are abused badly and enslaved, especially because they are not permitted to leave or return home to the comforts of their family.” (Tiefenbrun, “Child Soldiers, Slavery and the Trafficking of Children”). Children are being forced to endure terrible situations, because their elders are unable to compromise. War leaves so many more wounded and dead than just the number of actual casualties counted in the field. Thousands are afflicted by other conditions caused by awar that lead to their demise. War kills more than people actually realize, it has a bigger toll on society than people realize. There are hundreds of people from soldiers to innocent citizens to the families of soldiers who suffer from
