Do you remember reading a thrilling story that you could actually relate too? Numerous stories today tell the inspiring stories of people by many authors; however, I feel The Odyssey and Romeo and Juliet both portray similar themes in the context of the story. For example, both show the importance of love, family, and fate in the context of the story. In the story Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is passionately in love with Juliet.
Watching the movie John Q after reading the play Antigone by Sophocles, at first glance the two look completely opposite. But digging deeper into the storyline and themes can prove they have many similarities! Some of these similarities are the characters in the stories, the conflicts that take place, and the themes throughout both the movie and the play. Characters paragraphs: The first character similarity you will find it one that is quite obvious, the fact that the two characters both have the movie or play named after them should be a big hint.
This develops the theme that Romeo thinks that being alone is worse than death. Shakespeare uses similar themes for Romeo and Juliet because they are both faced with similar
For example, the two stories share the exact same plot all the way to the end where one character, Beowulf, dies and Aladdin lives, making a new life for himself as prince
Romeo and Tony both go through love and do not end the way things should. Romeo and Juliet from Shakespeare, and Tony and Maria from West Side Story, are both in love with each other. Both of their family or social group do not get along in their story. Even though they have many similarities they also have some differences. For example, Romeo and Juliet are wealthy, while in West Side Story ,Tony and Maria are poor.
Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet in year 1595. Disney made the animated film, Gnomeo and Juliet, in 2011. Gnomeo & Juliet is a computer-animated, comedic recreation of Shakespeares masterpiece. In sed movie, all of the human characters are replaced by lawn decorations. There are 3 major differences and 3 major similarities between the two.
There are a lot of similarities from the story Romeo and Juliet and the movie Gnomeo & Juliet. They both were similar because nurse was the same and Romeo's personality was the same. They were different because the way Romeo and Juliet died. The story by Shakespeare titled Romeo and Juliet had a unique genre of tragedy. They both were similar because nurse was the same.
Shakespeare had many sources when he was writing a play and one of his most noticeable is Plutarch and Ovid. Plutarch provided some of the bios for Greek and Roman rulers that inspired Romeo and Juliet. Ovid's Metamorphose was used in the play Midsummer Night's Dream. They both played a big part in Romeo and Juliet.
In Romeo and Juliet, most of the references made by William Shakespeare are either stories of love and tragedy, like the story of Thisbe and Pyramus, or people who represent love, like Cupid, the God of Love or Venus, the Goddess of Love. The story of Thisbe and Pyramus is about two ill-fated lovers who were not allowed to be wed due to their parents’ rivalry. They were both separated by a stone wall, but there was a crack that they used to confess their love for each other. One day, they both agreed to meet at Ninus’ Tomb under a mulberry tree. Thisbe is the first to arrive, but she sees a lioness, mouth filled with blood from a fresh kill, so she flees.
When looking at the similarities, the reader sees several. First, a similarity between the two works is that the couples in each story are forbidden to be married. “Pyramus and Thisbe” demonstrates, “They would gladly have married, but their parents forbade.” A Midsummer Night’s Dream also shows, “As she is mine, I may dispose of her, Which shall be either to
‘’Pyramus was the most handsome of young men and Thisbe was the fairest beauty of the East.’’ This quote is by Ovid in Metamorphoses. This story is said to be another ‘Romeo and Juliet’ story that William Shakespeare was inspired by it. When Pyramus and Thisbe were younger, they were neighbors in a city named Babylonia. Of course they were childhood friends, but as they grew older they fell in love.
In both “Romeo and Juliet” and “Pyramus and This,” miscommunication is an important element in both of the tales. For example in “Romeo and Juliet”, Romeo says “Well, Juliet, I will lie with thee tonight”(5.1.34) and in “Pyramus and Thisbe,” Pyramus says “Now,” he said, “you shall drink my blood too” (1.1.39) These examples show the miscommunication of the two tales. Romeo is going to kill himself because he thinks Juliet has really died and when Pyramus also killed himself when he misunderstood Thisbe’s cloak was covered in blood he believed that Thisbe is dead. There are some differences that can be pointed out in the story such as Juliet drinking a potion that can make her look dead while Thisbe on the other hand, dropping her cloak while
Romeo and Juliet Compare and Contrast Although Romeo and Juliet grew up in two different households meant to hate each other from the day of their birth, these two star crossed lovers find each other in a different light. In the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet By William Shakespeare, Romeo being a Montague and Juliet being a Capulet were born into this family feud. The two of them fall in love at a party where Romeo was out looking for the original girl he was in love with, Rosaline, and Juliet was there to meet her future husband Paris. With love playing a huge part in this play, it's concluded that Romeo and Juliet are both a Eros kind of lover.
Theseus being the Greek Government and Socrates being the role of the Minotaur. Although there some similarities in some two comparisons of characters the most ways that the two stories are relatable are the events that occur to both main characters, and the people
The reason I say this is because in both plays their was a plot for revenge. Although in Romeo and Juliet it wasn't as big their is similarities. Fro example, in Romeo and Juliet this couple fell in love but were forbidden to marry each other . So they snuck off and got married to benefit their love for one another and kind of get revenge on their parents for not letting them do that from the start. But that then turned in to a tragedy when they both died.
