The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, and the novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson are very different. The works have a common concept that when parents emotionally abandon their child, it leads the kids to look for support from other people or hobbies. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Juliet's parents, Capulet and Lady Capulet do not give Juliet a choice on whether or not she gets to marry Paris. In addition, the emotional abandonment caused by the poor communication led to Juliet disobeying her parents and going to find Romeo.
