Every good book involves the development of characters throughout the story. Whether the story changes by working through a particular challenge, or developmenting through the phases of life, or even developmenting different morals. This keeps the reader interested and allows for a good story line. Some such stories include The Scarlet Ibis, Romeo and Juliet, and The Most Dangerous Game. All these stories show different development though a character over the course of the novels to keep the reader interested.
The Scarlet Ibis is set over a period of just about seven years, the span of Doodle’s life and despite being such a short time, Doodle is able to progress as a character. As a young boy with an extreme heart condition, Doodle required the help of his brother, to be able to overcome a many obstacles in spite of his illness. If it wasn't for his brothers determination, Doodle might not have progressed as far as he did. At the beginning of the play Juliet is shown as a shy, obediant, innocent child; however she shows a strength that makes her able to have maturity beyond her age. When her mother informs Juliet that she shall marry Paris because he is rich and handsome, she responds “I’ll look to like, if looking liking move.” Right when she falls for Romeo she is ready to go against her parents wishes and marry Romeo in secret. Towards the end of the book Juliet decides that she would rather die than enter into a false marriage. At this point when she is most isolated from her family, even her nurse telling Juliet that she should forget about Romeo and follow her father's wish and marry Paris.
