Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet” presents two teenage lovers, Romeo and Juliet, who are deeply in love with each other, with a strong influence on their families and society. While their love is passionate and intense, it is also constrained by their family rivalries. Both characters struggle with the pressures of their families, which lead to the unimaginable, suicide. Despite these similarities, Romeo and Juliet differ in their decision-making and approach to love, reflecting how complex human relationships can be. By taking an insight into these similarities and differences, we can see how Shakespeare presents the themes of love, fate and social constraints. This also causes conflict between their relationship and their loyalties to their families, highlighting the complexity of their relationships. Aside from all the similarities they have, they also have some differences. One of the main differences is their family affiliation, Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet, two rival families. Being born into rival families they also have different personalities, what I mean by that is that Romeo has an impulsive personality where he does without thinking and Juliet is more pragmatic and thinks her actions through. Even though Romeo makes reckless decisions, he still has relative freedom within his household. While Juliet is more subject, her parents expect more from her and have more control over her, they also make most of the decisions for her. They made her marry Paris, which caused Juliet to do her fake death act, leading to Romeo killing himself and Juliet waking up and killing herself.
