Brydi King & Victoria Foco Adv. English 5th hour The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet; Pyramus and Thisbe; both alike in structure with some differences in small details. Throughout this essay, we will be analyzing the great similarities and differences in the two ancient stories. Both stories tell a tale of forbidden love and family feuds, but the minute differences in detail manage to make each of the stories unique in their own way. To start off with one of the similarities between the two stories, both Romeo and Pyramus believed that their lovers had died. This led to the death of themselves. In the story of Pyramus and Thisbe, it states, “Thisbe was dead. He had let his love, a tender maiden, come alone to a place full of danger, and had not been there first to protect her” (Ovid, 488). Pyramus was led to this conclusion because when he arrived at the Ninus Tomb, Thisbe’s cloak was on the ground, ripped to shreds. Romeo was convinced …show more content…

“Pyramus and Thisbe, he the most beautiful youth and she the loveliest maiden of all the East, lived in Babylon, the city of Queen Semiramis, in houses so close together that one wall was both. Growing up side by side, they learned to love each other.” (Ovid, 487 & 488). This quote clearly recognizes that Pyramus and Thisbe met while growing up together, while Romeo and Juliet met at a Capulet feast. Another fairly comparable difference was the fact that Pyramus and Thisbe talked through a hole in their shared wall, meanwhile, Romeo and Juliet communicated through the nurse, Juliet’s personal servant. An example of how Juliet and Romeo communicate through the nurse is when the text states “What o'clock tomorrow/ Shall I send to thee?” (Shakespeare, 408).
