Juliet and Romeo are shown to do very dangerous things for each other, like harming themselves and lying to their family. There are many examples of the dark side of love, Juliet is dishonest, Romeo breaks rules, and Capulet is very hard on Juliet. Juliet shows the dark side of love through her dishonesty. After the Nurse comes back to the house with news of Romeo, Juliet is impatient with her and then says, “Sweet, sweet, sweet Nurse, tell me, what says my love?” (2.5.53). After Capulet hears of Juliet's disdain towards marrying Paris, he threatens to “drag thee on a thither” (3.5.155). Because Juliet asked to marry Paris on a later date, Capulet became outraged and would not be afraid to take her to her own wedding on a criminal’s cart. During Capulet’s angry rant at Juliet, he says to her, “Out you baggage!” (3.5.156). Capulet is so angry at Juliet for simply asking for a later wedding date, he refers to his own daughter as a slut or whore. While Capulet is still giving Juliet his speech, he tells her, “Get thee a church a Thursday or never after look me in the face” (3.5.161-162). Because Capulet is so determined for Juliet to marry Paris, he is willing to have to disown Juliet and Capulet believes that if Juliet does not marry someone rich like Paris, she has no future or use to the Capulets. When Juliet refuses to marry Paris, Capulet says, “Beg! Starve! Die in the streets! For, by my soul, I’ll ne’er acknowledge thee” (3.5.193-194). Capulet wants Juliet to marry Paris so much so that he does not care if he has to disown his own daughter and she starves on the street.
