Love is Worth Fighting for Many children value their mother’s opinion and want their approval; however, this can sometimes come at a great cost. When taken too far, this pursuit can lead to unhappiness and misery. Juliet is compliant toward her mother, but when the time comes, she chooses to prioritize her own wants over her mothers. In the play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, Juliet matures from her adolescent, obedient self into an independent and decisive young woman. Her story shows love has a powerful influence on one's decisions.
In the beginning of the play, Juliet displays many adolescent qualities and shows her willingness to obey to a great extent. When Lady Capulet enters the room, Juliet states, “I am here. What is your will?”(I. III. 7-9.). By immediately asking her mother what she wants her to do, Juliet shows how much she desires her mothers approval. She continues to reveal just how much adolescent respect she has for her mother, after her mother suggests marrying Paris. Juliet states, “Than your consent gives strength to make it fly” (I.
