Fate isn’t just a force working in the background; it’s a looming presence that shapes every moment, leading down a path of tragedy from which there is no escape. It’s said that “Fate Shuffles the cards, and we play it”(Arthur Schopenhauer), and it’s true, as Fate shapes our lives, and decides what is going to happen, and we just play it, we perform what it has shaped for us. No one should be blamed for their deaths because Fate predetermined their unavoidable deaths. This curse is already proved in the Chorus when it says “From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, /A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life” (Shakespeare 1.5-6). Not only that, but everyone seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, as it starts to have many consequences, one after another like a chain. The first coincidence happened when Romeo and Benvolio bumped into the illiterate servant, who asked them to read the letter about the party. This results in Benvolio and Mercutio forcing Romeo into the enemy’s party. As Romeo and the others head for the party, Romeo tells Mercutio about his dream: Some consequences yet hanging in the stars Shall bitterly begin his fearful date With this night's revels, and expire the term Of a despised life closed in my breast By some vile forfeit of untimely death. After meeting Juliet and falling in love, Juliet gets to know that Romeo is a montague and an enemy to her and her family. She then gets very sad and at night she walks out her balcony and says, “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?”(2.2.33) What kind of coincidence is it for Romeo to be right there hearing all the things she said about him? This led to them making wedding plans. This is yet another game of fate. It is no coincidence that Romeo had an urge to go run away to see Juliet, and he ended up right outside the balcony with Juliet popping out right at that moment and saying these lines. After the wedding plans are made, Romeo happily returns to Benvolio and Mercutio to tell them the happy news just to receive a huge blow in his face about Tyablt wanting to duel him because of the humiliation he received from Lord Capulet.
