In the lottery, it's against the odds. You can keep trying until you find that one lucky ticket. But sometimes when you think you've won, it goes downhill. According to Forbes.com, “The vast majority shared my impression that winning a jackpot is destructive”. This is saying, even though you think you hit the jackpot, it doesn't always end positively. Most lottery winners go bankrupt over time, leading to unhappiness. In Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, I believe that Romeo and Juliet's love is like a lottery. They have eyes on other people, but think they beat the odds when they meet. But over time, fate took hold and brought them to their deaths. I believe that it was Fate that led to Romeo and Juliet's demise. There were many events that they …show more content…

Due to this, their parents would never allow them together. One example of this is when in the prologue it says, “From ancient grudge, break to new mutiny/A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life/ Doth with their death bury their parents’ strife” (Shakespeare Prologue ). We are informed that the Capulets and Montagues have a long-lasting rage. And we learn that nothing can end it except for their kids' deaths. This shows fate because this event is far out of their control. They did not choose to be born into a family that has a grudge that would never allow them together. That was one example, now let me tell you the other. The letter did not arrive in Romeo in time. This leads to Romeo killing himself, not knowing Juliet is about to wake from the sleeping potion. “Who bare my letter, then, to Romeo/I could not send it—here it is again/The letter was not nice but full of charge, Of dear import, and neglecting it, May do much danger” (Shakespeare Act 5 Scene 2 Lines 15-20). In this quote, Friar Lawrence finds out that the letter he sent to Romeo about the plan did not arrive. He then realizes how badly things are going to go, and tries to find a way to save
