Romeo and Juliet Essay Option #2 William Shakespheres tragedy “Romeo and Juliet” is based on two star crossed lovers from feuding families in Verona. Their families' vendetta against each other caused duels and their children’s untimely deaths. Romeo and Juliet’s love for each other was passionate, but unfortunately due to their familial conflicts they were unable to ever reach their happily ever after. In this tragedy the main character's fate was not entirely dependent on their own actions, but other characters also had a great influence on their fate. Some characters that influenced the story include Friar Lawrence, Tybalt, and Lord Capulet. Romeo was put in a position where he was forced to kill Tybalt, and due to this the prince decided to banish him “And for that offense/ Immediately we do exile him hence” (Act 3, Scene 1). Tybalt's death directly influences Romeo being banished, and that causes Juliet’s marriage to Paris. Tybalt’s character heavily influences the main character’s fate at the end. Lord Capulet is another character that is heavily responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s fate. Lord Capulet is Juliet’s father, and he initially cares for his daughter’s well-being when it comes to her love life. However, after Tybalt’s death occurs, he becomes preoccupied with marrying her off to Paris, so she can stop her weeping. He also becomes furious when Juliet tries to refuse the marriage “How, how, how, how, choplogic? What is this?/ “Proud”-and “I thank you”-and “I thank you not” (Act 3, Scene 5). He calls Juliet names for not wanting to marry, he even threatens to throw her out of the house. He believes that marrying Paris is the best course of action, even though it is the last thing that Juliet wants.
