What is in a name? A name, given at birth, defines one's identity. A name classifies a person to a certain culture, class, or trade. In Act II, Scene II of William Shakespeare's famous play Romeo and Juliet, Juliet wistfully argues amongst herself the worth of a name. A simple name bitterly divides her from a man she lusts for. Juliet compares a name to individual body parts; how something that is not attached to oneself could hold such power. She questions how one rose could appease the senses more than the next. She ends her soliloquy by saying that she does not care if he is a Montague and desires he reciprocates her opinion. Shakespeare raises a serious question. What is a name?
