William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, explores the consequences of impulsive decisions and the power of free will. A pair of star-crossed lovers tried to make their relationship work, however, their family’s feud did not allow them to. One of the central themes of the play is whether the tragic events were caused by fate or by the characters' own choices. While some argue that the couple was destined for a tragic end, it seems that Romeo and Juliet's actions and decisions are ultimately to blame for their tragic ending. To start, Juliet was a person with good morals. She has always been obedient and followed her parents' rules. When Romeo came into her life, she went against these morals and chose to kiss and talk to him. It states, “ Then move not while my prayer’s effect I take. Thus from my lips, by thine my sin is purged.” [Kisses her.] (1.5.106-107) These are Romeo’s words. Before this, Juliet speaks of her morals, saying her lips are only used in prayer. Romeo convinces her to kiss him, saying that doing so will rid him of his sins. Another example states “ Sin from my …show more content…

My evidence states, “BENVOLIO. He ran this way and leapt this orchard wall. Call, good Mercutio.” (2.1.5-6) This is the scene where Benvolio realizes that Romeo had escaped to see Juliet. Mercutio goes on to speak of how Romeo shows passion and how he is a lover. Another piece of evidence states “ROMEO. With love’s light wings did I o’erperch these walls; For my stony limits cannot hold love out, And for what love can do, that dares love attempt. Therefore thy kinsmen are no stop to me” (2.266-69) In this quote, Romeo chooses to see Juliet even though he knows everyone is searching for him.
