When Romeo first comes to talk to Friar Lawrence about marrying Juliet, Friar Lawrence is hesitant to perform the ceremony. He thinks that Romeo is moving too quickly, and that Romeo should not get married to a person he has just met. Despite his doubts though, he marries Romeo and Juliet behind their parent’s backs in the hopes that a marriage between the two families will end the feud. In the tragic play, the god-teacher takes the shape of Friar Lawrence. Although some readers don’t see beyond the friar’s failed plan to keep the lovers together, he assists Romeo and Juliet tremendously; furthermore, the plot couldn’t develop without him.
In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Tybalt is at the most of Mercutio’s death because of his explosive personality and temper, which led to him acting without thinking. In act 3 Scene 1, a tragic and dramatic fight takes place, where Mercutio was struck by Tybalt and as a result, died. Poor decisions are present in many places in the play of Romeo and Juliet, especially in the role of Friar Lawrence. One of the major decisions that later prove to be of bad judgement was his choice to willingly marry Romeo and Juliet, in absolute discretion other than notifying a select few. This is not only seen as a foolish move by the audience, but also by Friar Lawrence himself as he states “These violent delights have violent ends/ And in their triumph die, like fire and powder” (II, vi, 9-10). Here, it is shown that “like fire and powder”, Friar Lawrence himself predicts that this marriage will end in an explosion of sorts.
Rush Things? NO WAY! Imagine two families hate each other and only two people, Romeo and Juliet can end the feud between the families, but the plan to end the feud ends up backfiring, killing six of the family members including Romeo and Juliets. Because of this reason the theme of Romeo and Juliet is do not rush things too fast or there will be consequences in the future. This is shown throughout Romeo and Juliet rushing their marriage causing their deaths.
