Is Shakespeare even relevant? William Shakespeare, a man of many writings. 154 sonnets, numerous amounts of plays, many poems etc. all written by him. Not only did Shakespeare write he also had a thing for making up new words in his free time. Many famous plays were written by him; Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet etc. The relevance of Shakespeare has come into question many times. People often wonder “Why do we study Shakespeare?”, “What is he even saying?”, “Does Shakespeare really teach us anything?” Not being able to understand Shakespeare is probably the main reason people do not think he is relevant anymore, but little do they know, behind all those confusing, made up words are life lessons. The most important lesson taught in Romeo and Juliet is think before you act. This is displayed when all the Montague and Capulet men ever do is fight and kill each other instead of talking. Nobody ever thinks of the consequences that could follow. Another lesson Shakespeare teaches young people is do not judge a book by its cover. This is shown throughout the whole play in varies ways. Such as how Tybalt didn 't even know Romeo but because he is a Montague he hates him or when Juliet says that “behind the gorgeous face that is Romeo’s is a soul made for the devil.” Juliet never once thought that Romeo cause have killed her own cousin but when she finds out she acts as if Romeo has betrayed her. One of the final lessons taught in Romeo and Juliet is love is dangerous. In the article, “On the Bard’s birthday” it implies how Shakespeare’s stories would be now a days if they used smartphones, but modern technology would draw away from the main idea that Shakespeare is trying to write about. “Write what you know? Shakespeare adamantly didn’t. But in the process, he wrote what we all know. And he didn’t need a smart phone to do it”. People should continue studying Shakespeare because he opens up minds to a world that does not revolve around smartphones or television.
