How Do Individuals Display Ruling Passion?

What ideas does William Shakespear develop regarding ruling passion? First of all, what is passion? Passion is a strong emotion that can't be controlled or the strong feeling of desire that you have for someone. In the book Romeo and Juliet, were two young teens that had a strong sense of passion for one another. The author William Shakespear, uses foreshadowing to display the ruling passion that the two characters show for each other. Romeo, who secretly gets married to Juliet is madly in love with her, he demonstrates his passion towards her in a series of different and interesting ways throughout the book.

After the wedding takes place, the nurse comes up with a plan to help get Romeo up to the bedroom where Juliet is. Later that same day, Romeo goes to visit his best friend and a few others in the streets of Verona. Tybalt randomly shows up and starts to fight Romeo because he had entered a party thrown by the Capulet family, which he was knowingly not allowed to enter. Romeo however did not fight Tybalt back because he was married to Juliet now and he wanted to try and make peace between the two families. While this event was happening Mercutio couldn't watch Romeo get beat up anymore and decided to fight back for his best friend. Suddenly as the fight gets too aggressive Tybalt stabs Mercutio in anger and rage which ends up killing him in a slow and painful death. “I was hurt under your arm.” Romeo says this because he is blaming himself for Mercutio’s death since he put his love for Juliet before thinking about his friends. When Tybalt is still angry, Romeo is ready to get even by drawing his sword and kills Tybalt. This brought Romeo great guilt and fear. Mercutio dying is being brought back to the idea of how ruling passion is being displayed throughout the book and the different events happening. Lord Capulet, which is the name of Juliet's father, tells her that she has no other choice but to marry a man named Paris not knowing that she is already secretly married to Romeo. This results in a big argument between both Juliet and her father causing a big scene in the household. Juliet says she refuses to marry Paris still not telling him about Romeo but her father threatens to disown her if she doesn't marry the man of his choice. “Out, you baggage, You tallow-face!” Juliet tries to beg her mother to not make her marry Paris but she refuses to go against her husband's wishes and leaves Juliet alone with the nurse. When the Friar who married Romeo and Juliet heard this news, he proposes a plan that consisted of Juliet consenting to marry Paris, then on the night of the wedding she will have to drink a potion that will make her sleep and appear dead for a period of time long enough to make people think she is dead. Juliet will then be laid to rest in the Capulet tomb, the Friar will send a letter to Romeo explaining the plan and help Romeo retrieve his true love when she wakes up. However, this plan does not end up working out for the two of them resulting in another dramatic and passionate
