Soundtrack: Songs with Significance The songs, “Let Me Love You”, by DJ Snake and “I Feel It Coming”, by The Weeknd, accurately represent the mood and plotline in the first act of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. In Act I, Scene iv, Romeo is doubtful about attending the masquerade since he previously has a dream foreshowing disastrous events. Romeo describes to Mercutio why he should not attend the masquerade, “I fear too early, for my mind misgives / Some consequence yet hanging in the stars, / By some vile forfeit of untimely death” (1.4.106-108). Guided by his dreams, Romeo feels a tragedy coming that will result in death. The song, “I Feel It Coming”, describes and depicts Romeo’s unsettled feelings on going to the masquerade. Although danger and dilemmas are to come, Act I is still filled with love and romance. In Scene v, Romeo and Juliet meet and immediately fall in love. Upon first seeing Juliet, Romeo begins to describe her beauty, “Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! / It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night, / Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear” (Shakespeare 1.5.42-45). An infatuated Romeo emphasizes on Juliet’s beauty being too good for this world and cannot seem to take his eyes off of her. The lovers’ romance and the happy mood of Scene v are outlined in the song, “Let Me Love You”. The jovial melody of “Let Me Love You” depicts the happiness of Romeo and Juliet falling in love. The song lyric, “Never let you go, never let me down” (Snake), ties into Romeo and Juliet’s immediate love and desire to be together.
