Tragedy may result in a fatality or a natural disaster destroying everything you’ve ever known, but inevitably, tragedy occurs for everyone. Oftentimes tragedies can change a person for the better or the worse. A person can be influenced to do good for the world and many unfortunately do bad for the world. Three main theories of the tragic hero of the Aristotelian model, the Shakespearean model, and the modern tragic hero. Each model has five defining characteristics, which are nobility, hamartia, downfall, anagnosis, and suffering. In the Shakespearean mode of tragedy, the play “Romeo and Juliet” best models the tragic hero.
