In the tragic love story, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare several people debate whether Tybalt, the nurse, or Friar Lawrence are the villains of the story; however, the true villain is the feud. In the story Tybalt did very heinous things, he attempted to kill Romeo but killed Mercutio instead. Tybalt was just acting on what he knew which was the feud. The feud taught him to hate all Montagues. Romeo Montague fell in love with Juliet Capulet, which is against the “rules”. Juliet has a very close relationship with the nurse and Romeo has a very close relationship with the friar. Therefore, the nurse and the friar would do anything to make them happy. They both had the best intentions for the kids, which in the end, hurt them because of the feud.
A plethora of people think Tybalt is the villain of the story, but he is just acting on all he knows, which is the feud. In the story, he says “Uncle, this is a Montague our foe.” (1;5;59). Since they threw a Capulet party it is considered disrespectful to go to the party if you are a Montague. Later in the story, this conflict causes many issues. He also states “Romeo, the love I bear thee can afford /No better term than this: thou art a villain.” (3;1; 56-57). Tybalt calls Romeo the villain because Romeo is a Montague, and he is a Capulet. Tybalt attempted to kill Romeo and ended up killing Mercutio because of the feud. The nurse is the reason Juliet found out who Romeo was at the party. The nurse also became a messenger for the two of them. None of the things the nurse did would be a problem if there was no feud. Friar Lawrence married Romeo and Juliet in secret and gave Juliet the potion. He wouldn’t have had to do any of that if the feud didn’t exist.
