William Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet” is a tragedy with many interlocking storylines that ultimately end in both Romeo and Juliet killing themselves. One of the main controversial topics on the play is the idea of who to blame for the two lovers deaths. While some people have strong feelings towards Friar Laurence as the main cause of Romeo and Juliet’s deaths, but I believe the fault is on the Capulets, Montagues, and Romeo and Juliet themselves. Without the original family argument, I believe that the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet wouldn’t exist at all. This of course comes from both sets of families. Too early seen unknown, and known too late!” The Montagues are partilaly to blame because they are the enemy of Juliet’s family. This mutual family hatred is so deep rooted that the reader never genuinely gets reasoning behind it. Once seeing both Romeo and Juliet dead, the families are able to put the feud behind them. Lord Montague even saying, “But I can give thee more. For I will raise her statue in pure gold.” He tells Lord Capulet that he will have a gold stature of Juliet put up to praise her. This further proves that it was possible for the families to put aside their rivalry. I believe that the Montagues should also take blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. While they didn’t have as large of an impact as the Capulets, they still made one half of the
