The play Romeo and Juliet is about a forbidden love between teenagers, but it can be argued that the plot is not driven by love, but by the fatal compulsiveness of Romeo. He believes himself in love even if the person he is after has never even glanced his way. This compulsive nature is first foreshadowed in the text when Romeo says to his cousin, Benvolio, "Out of her favor where I am in love" (Shakespeare 1.1.158). In this quote he verbally expresses how he has given his whole heart to someone who he knows will not love him back. " Of a despised life, closed in my breast, by some vile forfeit of untimely death" (Shakespeare 1.4.111-112), Romeo later says as he describes the feeling of foreboding from his dream.
In the play "Romeo and Juliet," by William Shakespeare, the tragic deaths of the characters Romeo and Juliet are because of a series of impulsive actions and their failure to communicate, which were both more Romeo's fault. Through his reckless and impulsive decisions and poor communication with Juliet, Romeo plays a central role in the tragic deaths of both of the young lovers. Romeo's impulsive characteristics drive him to rush into the marriage with Juliet, not thinking about the consequences it may have on them and both of the families. Romeo's carelessness is noticeable all throughout the play when he quickly declares his love for Juliet the first time he sees her. When Romeo first runs into Juliet at the Capulet's party, he states, "Did my heart love till now?
Romeo and Juliet do many self-destructive things on their path of love, from planning to purge their identities to be with each other to killing themselves because they feel they have nothing other than their love. In fact , after the couple’s most intimate moment (after they have sex) they imagine each other dead - an omen of double suicide, “Methinks I see thee, now thou art below,/ As on dead in the bottom of a tomb”( III.v.56-7 ). Love may have brought Romeo and Juliet’s suicides, but… Love is a very passionate emotion, commanding people to do crazy
Romeo Montague is a young man who has many different views on love. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare creates a confused character that believes many different things about this intense feeling, but also believes the opposite. Romeo states that we are not supposed to control who we fall in love with, but we can still choose to love whoever we want. He also says that this feeling is happy but also sad. This feeling of affection is known to confuse people like young Romeo causing him to be sad and lonely.
Types of Love There was once a great American novelist ,F. Scott Fitzgerald, that had said "There are all kinds of love in this world, but never the same love twice. " What this quote means is that there is a variety of different types of love in our world, but you can never have the same type of love for two people. For example if you feel certain type of love like Agape love you can not have Agape love for more than one person else .This quote goes along with Romeo and Juliet ,by William Shakespeare, perfectly because in this play there is a lot of different loves going on between the characters.
What is love? What is love? Many people say that they have “loved” or been “loved” before, however do they even know what love is and if it changes us? Many people may not know.
Kaycie Cusi Ms. Albi ENG1D1 May 27, 2016 Romeo and Juliet Expresses the Dangers of Love William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” is a tragedy. The Capulets and the Montagues lived a long feud between each other. The feud between the two families causes chaos within the city of Verona, causing the relationship between Romeo and Juliet to be hopeless from the start. Therefore, the play expresses the danger of a love in which two people become the whole world to one another. It expresses itself in three ways; they betray their families, they do not know the true meaning of love, and they risk their lives being together.
Love is a word that is used every day. It has become a common phrase used in many different contexts. “I love pizza” “I love my mom” “I love the boy I sit next to in Algebra” “I love video games”. But do people really “love” pizza or video games? What even is love?
Romeo and Juliet and their comparison of love creates a story like no other, a story that makes love feel irresistible in some ways. Romeo, a montague and Juliet, a Capulet, both have love for each other that is not meant to be, because of their family’s conflict between each other. Their family’s fight, have arguments, talk behind each other's backs and more that is unspoken of, but even through all of this both younglings of different sides love each other. The story that will be told today will be about both loves that Romeo has or once had, and how they both compare and contrast.
William Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ was set in the 1300s. Even so, many of the themes and ideas in the play are still relevant today. In all, love plays a huge role in the play Romeo and Juliet through Romeo and Juliet’s love for each other shown escepically in Act 2, Scene 2, and the love that other characters have for other things. Love is a stronger force than fate in Romeo and Juliet. This is shown in the last lines of the play as Prince Escalus addresses the citizens of Verona, "A glooming peace this morning with it brings"(5.3.231).
In Shakespeare’s play ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ it is suggested that love is based on looks. “Read o’er the volume of young Paris’ face, And find delight writ there with beauty’s pen…” (1.3.82-83) clearly indicates Lady Capulet’s view at love - girls will fall in love with a man because of his appearance - in which nothing is important but one’s looks. She wants her daughter, Juliet wedded, however Juliet does not have interest in men or marriage. Ironically, she falls in love with Romeo (the son of their foe, Montague) because of his beauty, which further enhances the point Shakespeare is trying to convey.
Love is developed in the play by presenting itself in different forms. Shakespeare’s first portrayal of the theme of love is in the first act when Romeo is talking to Benvolio about his love for Rosaline. He quotes: “Here’s much to do with hate but more with love. Why then, O brawling love, O loving hate, O anything of nothing first created! O heavy lightness, serious vanity, Misshapen chaos of well-seeming forms!
Love, an intense feeling of deep affection towards someone or something. Individuals themselves are faced with the challenges due to the found emotion of love. In this case, in the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, it was two teenaged star crossed lovers with unconditional love that sent them to a tragic death, but among peace and infatuation that filled their hearts. Experiencing the act of the cliche “love at first sight” played a massive role in the quick growth of their relationship. But what happens when coming in contact with such fondness?
How do we define love? Is it just a feeling of a feeling when you are feeling a feeling that you have never felt before? Or is there something to this thing called love? I believe love is more than a feeling, it is a choice, an action, a promise, a commitment. Real love is love that perseveres and never gives up.
Throughout Shakespeare's play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, both Romeo and Juliet are driven with passion instead of reason through love at first sight. Both characters did not consider others’ opinions. Juliet’s parents continued to tell Juliet to marry Paris, although Juliet was madly in love with Romeo and did not listen to what her parents’ opinions were. Both characters quickly reacted when they saw one laying in the tomb dead. Romeo did not stop to find out what happened to Juliet before killing himself then and there.
