Tragic lovers’ stupid decision which led to their tragic end. Romeo and Juliet written by William Shalespeare is a tragic romance novel about Romeo and Juliet who are from rival families and their unfortunate, devastating love. Romeo and Juliet are similar in that their family impose some expectations on them. However, they have lots of differences starting from their personality to their social life. Just like any noble in Verona, Romeo and Juliet experience societal expectations. Juliet for example is expected to marry Count Paris to bring dignity to her family. This is seen when Capulet, who is Juliet’s father, tells her to get married to Paris or be abandoned. “Fettle your fine joints ‘gainst Thursday next To go with Paris to Saint Peter’s Church, Or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither.” (A3,S5,L157-9) From this we can see that in Juliet’s case the expectations imposed on her are quite strict. However their personalities are really different in that they respond differently to stressful or difficult situations. Juliet is rational and obedient to her family. We also see that she is quite rational and thinks before doing things. For example, when her father forced her to marry Paris, instead of killing herself immediately, she goes to Friar Lawrence to ask him for help which shows that she is thinking of ways to get out of this situation instead of running away. Romeo on the other hand, is quite impulsive in his decision and dramatic. For example, Romeo kills Tybalt right away without thinking it through and receives grave consequences like getting banished from mantua.
