Our community, we have chosen to explore was west Philadelphia with our main focus being University City. Where UPenn, CHOP and Drexel reside and are the top schools and hospitals in the country. While we were exploring University City, I had noticed CHOP. I knew what CHOP does and where it was located. For some reason that day, it just slipped my mind that it was located there. Describe the organization The organization I chose from my community is CHOP (Children hospital of Philadelphia). The program specifically, the Ronald McDonald house. they have housing set up for families that have a child in chop for extensive time period. This organization is connected to CHOP. What could they do to help? Will their child suffer? Does their child need specific treatment for their cancer/serious illness? These are the questions that might be swirling around a parent’s mind, when they first enter into the building. It’s no parent wants to see their child be severely sick or die before them. It’s just isn’t how life is supposed to be. The version that the parents had in their brain is when our children are off to college. We can retire and go traveling around the US, Europe or Asia. There are so many opportunities, then one day while your child was at school. The nurse called the dad’s cell phone to tell him to come pick up his daughter. Then take her to the nearest ER, while waiting for the test results the father is just walking all over the place. Then the doctor comes out to tell you that their precious baby boy has a type of rare cancer that can’t be treated at their hospital. The ER you went handed the parents information about CHOP. When they go the diagnosis for their baby boy they called CHOP to ask if they could admit their son into their hospital. No questions asked they were transferred right away and he started treatment for his rare
