Ronald Reagan, our fortieth president, has helped the United States and many other countries in many ways. He helped unite Germany, end the Cold War, and take the power of the Soviet Union. Ronald has helped our country become greater, stronger, and safer from countries that have threatened our safety. He always did his best at everything he did, and he helped our country become the greatest it could be. Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois. He was the youngest of two children, his older brother was Neil. Ronald’s parents were John Edward “Jack” Reagan and Nelle Wilson. His father was a shoe salesman, and unfortunately was an alcoholic. He worked at these radio stations from 1934-1937. Ronald described play-by-plays he received by telegraph and needed to create color and details for the listeners. In 1937, Reagan was to report on the Chicago Cubs on Catalina Island in California for sports training. He stopped in L.A. to see a minor actress, and she later introduced him to her film agent. Ronald took a fim test and won a film contract with Warner Brothers Studio. After he won the contract, he moved to L.A. and a few months later he moved his parents to live with him in L.A. Ronald also started his speaking career while he was in his twenties. He gave inspirational talks to youth groups, students, and other organizations. Ronald returned to Hollywood and there he met Nancy Davis. After a while, they started dating and got engaged three years later and Chasen’s, their favorite L.A. restaurant. Their wedding was secret, having the ceremony at the Little Brown Church in Studio City, California. They had their reception at the lake home of William Holden, Ronald’s best man. In 1952, Reagan and Nancy had their first daughter, Patricia or “Patti”. Patricia was rebellious all her life, at one point living with a member of the rock band, The Eagles. Patricia was an actress, but had trouble getting jobs. Patricia quit being an actress and tried writing. A short while later she voiced regret and reconciled with her family. Their second child was Ronald Jr.. Ronald Jr. was born in 1958 and was called a politician’s son by many. He was born after Nancy sadly had two miscarriages. In college, Ronald Jr. dropped out to pursue ballet in 1976. He worked as a print journalist and was also a TV newsmagazine correspondant. Although Reagan had many children that he loved dearly, he always stayed distant from them. Reagan didn’t know what it was like to have a father figure, so he didn’t know how to be a great father.
